Various size Huayruro. Worn commonly by Shamans both in Peru and Turtle Island. QUALITIES: Removes sadness and attracts luck, love, wealth, and health.
Called Shacapa "God's Eye" because the local healers and shaman say that the wearer is protected by the Grace of God's vision. Often made into rattles so that as they are shaken the eyes are looking all over and making sure the person is safe.
Called Pashaco or Jaguar (lowland) Puma (highlands) Claw because this seed resembles that of this cat's claw. QUALITIES: meant to bring the wearer the qualities of a jaguar or puma.
"BOW TREE" - these are seeds from the trees that are used to make bows, this is the hardest wood in the Amazon and in turn their seeds are just as strong! QUALITIES: Due to their strength they are worn to represent that strength outwardly, giving the wearer the strength and focus of the bow.
PONA from the Bagva region of Peru - at the entrance of the Peruvian Amazon. There was a recent uprising while locals are demanding the protection of the rainforest. We are hoping that by meditators beginning to use these beads that there will be a higher level of peace in the region. Bless these people as they stand up to development encroaching on this precious region for all of us living on this planet.
This specific type of serpentine can ONLY be found at Macchu Pichu! This is a very precious and powerful stone. QUALITIES: access to spiritual history of the Earth, connection with Nature, and Kundalini awakening (described in detail in the "Book of Stones") Serpentine assists in exploring the deep history of the Earth and Nature and helps one find one's natural place within the greater web of life; it also enhances communication with Nature.
Jasmine (pictured here) is one of the women we buy the seeds from. She lives in Cusco with her son. Her shamanic lineage goes back several generations and in her grandfathers passing she was given the gift to carry on the tradition.
The seeds grow wild deep in the virgin rainforest of Quillabamba, north of Machu Picchu and are collected in a respectful and traditional way; the trees are asked permission before the seeds are collected, and some of these seeds are planted back into the rainforest as payment to the trees, and therefore to Pachamamma ( Mother Earth.)
All seeds used by Destination OM are collected by healers carrying on the traditions of their ancestors in a clear and respectful way, and we are honoured to be working with them and sharing their culture with others.
The Sacred numbers traitionally used in necklaces or bracelets are:
Choloke: 1, Huayruro: 3, Sara sara: 3, and Ichira: 7.
* Last visit we were unable to connect with Jasmine and will try to find her next time but have continued with business through a medicine man - as time progresses we will be posting more photos and info regarding all the people involved with Destination OM in Peru.
QUALITIES OF BEADS:When we asked local medicine men and shaman we were told that most of these seeds are worn for protection by varying tribes throughout the Amazon and still today within cities as these healers are moving into urban areas. These seeds are all collected by hand by a dear friend of Destination OM's, he returns to Peru once or twice a year so if you don't see what you are looking for then please contactdestinationom@yahoo.ca and we will try to acquire them on the next journey.
