Sangamas - Medicine people

"Sangama" is the term used in Southern Africa for "medicine people" who are usually women.

They use many of these seeds for divination, ceremony, and invoking ancestral spirits.

Since I travelled around Mozambique the hope was to find a reliable source for seeds and beads there. We now have a great source who lives in Canada and discusses Destination OM requests with family and friends prior to picking and shipping.
In the future we will post pictures here along with more information about what Destination OM is doing to help his family in Mozambique.

Fish Bone

Used by Sangamas for divination, ceremony, and for invoking ancestral spirits.

Nuts and Seeds

The small red seeds are called "Tinhissani" (teen-yi-sawni) and are meant to empower the wearer. Used by the Sangamas as medicine in powder form.
NOTE: These are the same but in smaller form to the Amazonian Huayruro believed by the shaman in the Amazon to bring love, wealth, and health.

My mozambiquan friend is trying to find more information out through his relations on each respective seed and quality.

Shells

Used by Sangamas for divination, ceremony, and for invoking ancestral spirits. (especially shells and fish bones)

Each is worn to empower the wearer.

The large shell is used in ceremonial dress.

Ebony

I have very few ebony pieces since Canada only allows one person to import a very small amount. Shipments in the future will come with small amounts so please email destinationom@yahoo,ca if you are interested in using one of these in your mala.
